Amy Dryer: Canoe: Exhibition and Sale
"I am drawn to the canoe as a symbol of our unique Canadian identity. The canoe is a rugged, simply made, and accessible vessel. Many Canadian artists have focused on the canoe, including Group of Seven artist Tom Thomson. I most identify with Thomson’s depictions of the ‘felt sense’ of the Canadian landscape including his renditions of his lived experiences journeying through Canada’s rugged terrain. I feel a connection to Thomson and his solitary time in his canoe.
I also associate the canoe with the human body: a container of individual and collective experience. Like canoes, humans are vessels that bind the past and the present, who travel through space and time, who discover reprieve and hold open the possibility of adventure." - Amy Dryer
