Masters Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition Jean-Paul Jérôme: The Timeless Plasticien, marking the 20th anniversary of the death of Jean-Paul Jérôme on August 14, 2004 and the 70th anniversary of the Manifeste des Plasticiens on February 10, 1955.
With unwavering dedication, Jean-Paul Jérôme devoted 60 years to his art, leaving an indelible mark on the Canadian art landscape. His journey began at the Montreal School of Fine Arts, followed by a formative stint in Paris, and culminated in a 20-year teaching tenure at Montreal's École des beaux-arts.
In 1955, Jérôme co-founded the influential Plasticien Movement alongside Rodolphe de Repentigny, Louis Belzile, and Fernand Toupin. This revolutionary group prioritized line, color, and form above all else, deeply shaping the future of Canadian abstract art.
Throughout his career, Jérôme's practice evolved, informed by his travels and collaborations. Yet, his commitment to purity and perfection in composition remained constant. This exhibition celebrates Jérôme's remarkable body of work, showcasing his artistic trajectory from 1971 until his passing in 2004.
