Featuring a comprehensive selection of original works of the Lake O’Hara region by founding Group of Seven artist, J.E.H. MacDonald (1873-1932). Accompanying the paintings on display are present-day photographs taken by Patty Cucman and her late husband Stanley Munn, authors of ‘To See What He Saw: J.E.H. MacDonald and the O'Hara Years, 1924-1932’. Their research proposes ‘on-the-spot’ painting locations for the artist’s oil sketches in that region. The extensive assembly of one subject from private collections and the identification of sites provides a rare opportunity into the working methods and artistic intentions of a senior Group of Seven artist. The show is made possible by private collectors from across Canada who have generously loaned their works acquired from Masters Gallery over the past 4 decades.
