John Dean - “Sunday in Venice”

March 29th to 31st, 2012

Please join us for an opening reception:
Friday, March 30, 2012
6-8pm

The works in Sunday in Venice represent an exploration into another place, another culture, with new light, colour, and texture. Although John traditionally exhibits his personal work in black and white, these images respond to the Mediterranean sunlight, the mysterious shadows of Italy, and life by the sea.

About The Artist

John Dean is a Calgary-based photographer whose artistic and commercial career spans 40 years. He graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1975 and was awarded the ACAD Alumni Award of Excellence in 2002. His work has been widely exhibited and is included in numerous public and private collections, including The Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts permanent collection.

Dean's visual explorations of the fading structural remnants of past lives, abandoned and neglected, find new life within the formalized context of his photographs. Whether it's within the windswept expanse of the prairie landscape or facing the onslaught of urban growth, we see the evidence of hard work, ingenuity and perseverance.
