About the Artist

ARCA (1877 - 1968) Born in Aberdeen (Scotland), Berthe studied in England with B. Herkomer at the Bushey School of Art, England, and with Tony Robert - Fleury and Jules Lefebvre at the Academie Julian, Paris. She lived in London (1906-12) before moving to Montreal in 1912 where she painted mainly rural scenes. She travelled and lived in England and France 1919-20; England 1920-31; Montreal 1931-51; and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia about 1922. She remained in Canada until 1951. She worked with watercolour, oil, pastel and coloured chalk. Her work is represented in the NGC. She exhibited with the RCA from 1912-1947 and the AAM from 1912-1941.
