About the Artist

Christopher Pratt was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1935. While a pre-medicine student at Mount Allison University he became interested in the fine arts and went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts. It was at Mount Allison, under the mentorship of fellow artist Alex Colville, where his work began to exhibit the meticulous rendering and stark simplicity that it is known for today. Pratt has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including becoming a Companion of the Order of Canada and a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. Pratt lives and works in St. Mary’s Bay, Newfoundland, where the landscape, people and culture of his home continue to feature prominently in his practice.
